About Nicole Lane — Architectural Designer Based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk

I founded Nicole Lane Architectural Design Studio in 2024, after 15 years working inside large UK housebuilders and privately owned development companies. The studio brings that experience to projects at every scale — from a kitchen extension in Suffolk to a 300-home masterplan.

The Experience Behind the Studio

I trained formally in architecture — BSc (Hons), MArch, and the ADPPA, a qualification covering end-to-end professional practice across design, planning, and delivery.

Over 15 years I’ve led design teams, driven outline and reserved matters applications through planning, coordinated multi-disciplinary consultants, and helped deliver hundreds of homes across UK schemes.

Alongside that, I’ve always taken on individual residential projects — extensions, refurbishments, new builds — working directly with homeowners. Not as a side interest, but because that work keeps me close to what every project really is: a real home, for real people, that matters deeply to whoever’s commissioning it.

How I Work

Every project — whether it’s a single storey extension or a reserved matters application for a 200-home development — is handled personally, with senior design input throughout. You’ll know who’s working on your project, and you’ll deal with people who care about getting it right.

I’ll tell you what I think — including when something won’t work, or there’s a better way to approach it. Good design needs honesty, and I’d rather have a direct conversation early than a difficult one later.

I’m based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, and work with homeowners across Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex and Norfolk, and developer and housebuilder clients across the UK.
